Condolences
The first time I met Maxine I recognized her as a strong fiercely independent woman, a gal with a great sense of humour.
She understood right and wrong and didn't respect people who abused the system. We all knew of her big heart for any animal who needed a meal and bit of shelter.
She could be sultry and glamorous, but plant a garden.... hang a light fixture, and was without doubt the best painter I have ever known.
I called her 'Mad Max" when she was calling City Hall about an issue that might hurt the neighbourhood or someone not following the rules. She called and called again till they responded and the issue was addressed.
She taught me how to make a turnip soufflé and we had many meals together. She ate my broccoli for years without ever telling me she didn't like the stuff.
All Max asked in return for her friendship was your loyalty
and respect. No games, no deceit. She could be stubborn but she was your best friend and advocate.
She was a dear friend and pal.
I am Harvey Watsons nephew. Maxine was my aunt and I will always remember the kindness she showed our family after my mother passed away when I was 13 years old and my sister was 10. Maxine and Harvey always invited my father Gord, Sandi and myself over for dinner and a swim in the pool. I thought she was the coolest aunt ever. Thank-you Maxine, god bless you and rest in peace.
