Condolences
I just learned today via Google that my Uncle David passed away last year. As I looked through the photos on this site, many memories came back, things I hadn't thought of in years.
My earliest recollection was my mother's face lighting up as her brother came into the room. Mama (Louise) adored him, and always talked of her brothers with such love. I remember sitting in Grandma's tiny kitchen and Uncle David walking in the side door. His presence filled the room, and his smile and laugh charmed me every time. I always called him Uncle David.
I remember our first big swimming pool, and Uncle David and Aunt Cora coming to swim. Uncle David would get me to climb on his shoulders and dive off into the water. I remember Uncle David and my father in our basement building a gun cabinet from scratch. They used to go hunting and fishing all the time. In fact, I have a photo of my father, his brother, and Uncle David at a rented cottage in Gurndale Beach, three young guys spending the day fishing. I remember my father and Uncle David taking our hounds out hunting on the weekends.
Over time things change, people move, head in different directions, and families take on a different dimension. The last memory I have of Uncle David is the day he came out to the house to see Mama in 2005. She was dying, and I think he knew it. I am grateful that he brought Aunt Marian to see Mama, and that he came on his own. Mama appreciated those visits more than he would ever know. I hope they are all together again, sharing their memories, and watching over us. I will miss you Uncle David. "Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him."
We are deeply saddened to learn of Dave's passing. He was a long time friend and did the honour of serving as Best Man at our wedding many years ago. Please accept our heartfelt condolences on your loss.
