ALEXANDER, Lucile - Died on May 10, 2013 after a long life of almost 102 years. Lucile was born on May 27, 1911 in Falmouth, Nova Scotia, the second of six children of Carl and Marion Church. Predeceased by all her siblings and two husbands, H. Edson (Ed) Ryder (1963) and W. B. (Bus) Alexander (2000). Fondly remembered by daughter Joanne (Ryder) Gunby, favourite nieces Jeanne Church and Karen (Church) Murray, and step-children David Alexander and Sharon (Alexander) Giles and their families. In 1935, Lucile left Nova Scotia for Hamilton, where she worked as a dental assistant. After her marriage to Ed in 1941 and the birth of their daughter in 1950, the family moved to Ancaster. After a decade as a young widow, Lucile renewed acquaintance with Bus, a long-time friend of Ed. They married in 1978 and lived in Brantford and Kitchener. For 20 years, they travelled extensively around the world and spent many enjoyable summers on their boat, cruising Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay. Lucile was, in the words of her friends at Highgate Retirement Residence in Ancaster, "an amazing lady". She met all of life's challenges with inner strength and a positive attitude. She was a kind and generous friend to all who knew her. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, (519) 752-4331. Cremation has taken place. A Private Memorial Service will be held. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the CNIB. A tree will be planted in memory of Lucile in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
