Obituary of Dorothy Marie Kendler

Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Marie Kendler December 23, 1919 - November 2, 2012 Dorothy Marie Kendler lived a long and gracious life. She was born on her parents' farm in Mount Pleasant, Ontario, and grew up there with her seven siblings, learning the skills of gardening, homemaking and thrift so important to farm life. She left the farm to work in a bank, first in Hamilton and then Toronto, and married Harry Kendler in 1951. With their sons, Michael and David, Marie and Harry made their life in several southern Ontario cities, settling finally in Toronto. Marie was an excellent bridge player, avid reader and interested traveller. She did not hesitate to travel with son David to the gritty, crowded alleyways of Morocco, nor, at the age of 88, with son Michael to the Buddhist monasteries of Japan. She made regular trips, summer and winter, to the West Coast to be with her sons and grandchildren. She was also an astute investor, delighting in attending corporate meetings to make sure the brass were paying attention to business. Marie spent her later years in Brantford to share the companionship of her sisters. She passed away peacefully, though suddenly, on November 2, 2012, leaving a lifetime of memories for her large, extended family. A service will be held to honour Marie at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, 715 Mt. Pleasant Road, in Mount Pleasant on Saturday, November 24, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. Donations in lieu of flowers will be gratefully accepted in Marie's memory by the church.
