Obituary of Roy McNicol

McNICOL, Roy (April 11, 1923 - December 12, 2011) It is with sadness that the family of Roy McNicol announces his passing on Monday, December 12th, 2011 at the age of 88. Roy was the beloved husband of Florence for over 65 years. Devoted dad to Sharon and Doug, Nancy and Graham and Bonnie and the late Norm. He was the cherished grandpa to Melissa and Jeff. Dear brother to Cam (Jose), brother-in-law to Eileen and the late John, and proud uncle to many nieces and nephews. Roy was predeceased by his parents, Annie and Alex; his brothers, Alex and Tom, and his sister Jean. Roy was a Veteran of World War II, where he was a pilot officer. He was a life member of the Brantford Air Force Club, a member of the Brant Probus Club, and a volunteer to many community organizations. He was an avid sportsman, as an athlete and coach. He rooted for the boys in blue - the Argos, the Jays and the Leafs. He was employed with the City of Brantford for 39 years - 29 as the Chief Building Official. He was a life member and past president of the Ontario Building Officials Association. Roy's was a life well-lived; he was surrounded by a loving family and his life was enriched by the many wonderful friendships he enjoyed over the years. He taught us all lessons in integrity, honesty and loyalty. He was truly "one of the good guys". We loved him and will miss him dearly. A private family service is being held, officiated by Father Mario Hryniewicz. Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Roy's life at Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Avenue on Saturday, December 17th from 7-9 p.m. Donations to the charity of your choice in Roy's memory would be appreciated.
