Obituary of Joan White

Passed away on the morning of September 4th, 2023 at her residence at Seasons Retirement Community in Brantford. Joan was the only child of Clive and Dilys White. She was born April 24th, 1934 in Meadowvale, Ontario. She grew up on the west coast of England near Liverpool. She returned to Canada in her early teens and pursued a career in teaching. Joan touched many young lives as a teacher at various elementary schools in Brantford. She spent a long stretch of her career at Fairview Public and retired from Greenbrier Public School. She was a lady of many talents including quilting, pottery, knitting, gardening and photography. Joan always enjoyed a good adventure, especially in nature. She could often be found bird watching, hiking or snowshoeing. She was an animal lover and always had a feline or canine companion by her side throughout her years. She enjoyed travelling, especially to see exotic places such as Antarctica and Iceland. Those who knew Joan will know that she will be most remembered by her quick wit and her ability as a storyteller. There is nobody that could rival Joan in recounting a riveting story. She used words eloquently to paint a picture so vivid, you would all believe you’d been there. We will all dearly miss these wonderful tales. Joan will be greatly missed by her family by choice, Elsie Strople, her Goddaughter Michelle Zimic (Mike and family) and Michael Strople (Carolyn and family). She is lovingly remembered by her cousins living in the UK, Jeff (June) Taylor and Jennifer Baker. She will also be missed by many dear friends, especially Marg, Rhea, Jane, Margaret and her friends at Seasons Retirement Community. In celebration of Joan’s life, friends will be received at a visitation tea Wednesday, September 13th, 2023 from 2-5pm at Beckett Glaves Funeral Home, Brantford, 519-752-4331. All who knew her are welcome to come and share memories of Joan over a cup of tea. Cremation has taken place and she will be interred at a later date in Sterling Ontario with her parents. Memorial donations may be given to the Brant County SPCA. A tree will be planted in memory of Joan in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
