Obituary of Gordon Mewhiney

Please share a memory of Gordon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With love and respect, we remember Gord Mewhiney who lost his battle against pulmonary fibrosis with dignity September 5, 2023. Gord was a good neighbour and friend, and a mentor to many. He always had a viewpoint on topics from politics to mechanics, and health to marketing and strategy. His quirky, dry humour made us laugh. In his early years, he won awards for playing accordion. He played in a junior orchestra at Massey Hall from 1951-1956 and won several awards for solo and duet recitals. In his teens and 20s, he was a professional roller blade instructor. Gord lived a life full of variety, from racing stock cars and riding his beloved red Harley Davidson with his long hair, to using his sales/marketing skills with many well known companies and campaigning and fundraising for causes he believed in. He was a researcher of knowledge, evident by the hundreds of books in his personal library, an avid snooker player with the Brant Veterans Snooker League, and he served as marketing director for Snooker Canada. In his later years, he was devoted to his belief in God and was part of the Followers of Christ. He loved gardening, his fish, and tinkering on things around the house. If you needed a tool, he likely had it. As a collector of everything from elephants to family heirlooms and antiques, he surrounded himself with memories and always had a story to share. A celebration of life will be held Thursday September 14th at 3:00 in the Costain/Johnston Community Centre at 16 Morrell Street. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave.,Brantford 519-752-4331. A tree has been planted in memory of Gord in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
