Obituary of Anna Antonowicz

Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anna Antonowicz passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on Friday, July 7th, 2023 at the John Noble Home. She was surrounded by loving family members as she slipped into the presence of her Lord. Anna was born in a small village in Poland as Anna Kutsche. She was the second of seven children born to Ludwig and Olga Kutsche. In the spring of 1948 she married her husband Nick Antonowicz (also born in Poland) in West Germany where the couple had met. They shared a 57 year adventure until Nick’s death in 2005. Their adventure began in the fall of 1948 when they boarded a military style ship called the Pacific Longfleet and headed for Halifax, Canada. Anna was pregnant with their first child, but it was Nick who was sea-sick and required his new wife’s help during their journey across the Atlantic Ocean. Upon their arrival in Canada they started out in an apartment in Toronto, then to a farm in Blenheim as indentured servants, then to their own home in Brantford. Over the course of their first 6 years together they were blessed with three children who were all raised in Brantford, Ontario. Anna had trained as a seamstress, and dress designer, under a strict European tutelage in West Germany. She continued excelling in her gifted sewing skills for most of her life. Before retiring she had worked many years creatively mending and sewing for the Ontario School for the Blind. However, her first and foremost commitment was being a dedicated wife and mother. She and Nick raised their three children with great care in taking them to Sunday School, sending them to a Christian camp in the summer, and teaching them to love and serve the Lord, just as they did. Anna is survived by her three children: Lidia Ochwat of Texas, and her husband Syd; Alexander Antonowicz of Brantford; and Ruth Henderson of Pennsylvania, and her husband Michael. She also leaves behind 9 grandchildren along with their husbands and wives, 12 great grandchildren with several spouses, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by a loving, younger sister, Helen Oles of Brantford. And, a faithful younger brother, John Kutsche, also of Brantford. Along with her husband, Nick, who passed away in 2005, Anna was predeceased by four of her siblings: Theresa Schulze, Jean Rajecki, Paul Kutsche and Halina Jamrozinski. Family and friends will be received at Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., Brantford, 519-752-4331 on Thursday, July 27th, 2023 from 2:00-4:00 p.m and 7:00-9:00 p.m. Funeral service will take place in the chapel on Friday, July 28th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mt.
