Obituary of Katherine Muylaert

Please share a memory of Katherine to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With great sadness, the family of Katherine Charlotte Muylaert (Machmer) announce her passing on May 28, 2022. Kathy was born on St. Patrick’s Day in 1935 to German immigrants who settled in Galt, Ont. and she lived most of her life in Hamilton. Kathy took from her mother, Amelia, a love of cooking and baking and the delight of sharing it. She always managed to turn out something delicious from her “pinch of this, handful of that” recipes. From her father, John, she learned the art of gardening and loved to get her hands in the dirt. A single parent to her two daughters, Kathy was hard-working, kind, generous, and unwaveringly stubborn. She was trivia extraordinaire who never missed an episode of Jeopardy. Kathy was often the loudest person in the room and the one having the most fun. Her positivity and humour were infectious. Even when age took away most of her step, she’d roll her walker to a good Elvis tune, some Rod Stewart or, especially, a little CCR. Kathy’s love for her grandchildren was fierce. Hannah (“my beauty”) and Evan (“my handsome”) were truly her joy. Kathy is survived by her children, Michelle (Michael) and Karen (Glen), her grandchildren, sister Hilda, and many nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her sisters Lena and Carol and brother Victor. At Kathy’s request, there will be no service. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., Brantford, 519-752-4331. A tree will be planted in memory of Katherine in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
