Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
RUTHERFORD, Dorothy Marie (Harris) passed away peacefully on August 17, 2021 in her 88th year. Dearly beloved wife for 63 years to Harold Arthur Rutherford (2016). Dorothy was a loving mother who will be missed by Darrell (JoAnne), the late David (Gwen), Debbie Dover (David), Jeff, Sandra Squeo and Ian. She was an adored grandmother of Kevin, Jamie and Adam; Ashley, Amanda and Angela; Matthew and Heather Dover; the late Amber, and Jason; Melissa McNeish and Joshua Squeo; and a special great-grandmother of nine. Predeceased by parents Claire and Amy Jean Harris. Dear sister of Audrey Rooney (Bob) and brother Don (Sharon) as well as special sister-in-law to Bea Belair (late Art), late Violet (late Les) Patterson, late Evelyn Deagle (Vern), and brothers-in-law late Cliff (Bev), late Harry (Joey), Bob (Vicky), Ted, and the late Larry (Delores). Mom grew up on the Harris Road in Brant County and raised her family on the farm next door. Dorothy was an avid gardener, nourishing her family with vegetables and fruits grown and preserved from two large gardens. She was a baker known for her pies and butter tarts and was a crafter who adorned her home with sewing, quilting, knitting, painting, ceramics, crocheting and rug hooking; and made many gifts of her creations to others. Committed to community service, mom was a long serving member of Langford Community Church and was active in the UCW, Langford Women's Institute, and at Brant School, attended by all 6 children. Mom continued her community work at Kelvin United while living for several years in that area. Nothing brought mom more joy than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, her pets and gardens, playing cards, watching the birds, Sunday drives and various camping trips with dad. Special thanks to neighbors Kathy and Matt who helped watch over mom, especially in the last few years. In her final months mom received palliative care from the professional, kind and caring staff at Hankinson House and St. Joseph’s LifeCare Centre. The staff became a part of our extended family and we were comforted knowing that mom was in their home and under their wonderful care. Friends will be received on Sunday, August 29th, 2021 from 2-4 p.m at the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., Brantford, 519-752-4331. A private family service will be taking place. Due to Covid 19 restrictions mask wearing and social and physical distancing rules must be followed. In lieu of flowers, donations to Langford Community Church or St. Joseph's Lifecare Foundation would be appreciated. Condolences, donations, tributes and a live funeral web-cast are available online at www.beckettglaves.com. A tree will be planted in memory of Dorothy in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
