Joan Pollard (Feb. 5, 1938 - May 5, 2021) We are saddened to announce that Joan has passed away at St. Joseph’s Healthcare in Brantford, Ontario. She went peacefully in her sleep with family by her side. She is survived by her daughters Sue and Judy Senecal (Jim) and her siblings Michael (Margot), Francine (Jacque), John, and Linda as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her brothers David (Esther) and Russell predeceased her. Daughter of the late Edward Pollard and Rolande Cyr, she grew up in Montreal with much time spent in Ste. Agathe. Joan was a brilliant student and was her class valedictorian when she graduated with a B.Sc. in Chemistry from Marianopolis/Université de Montréal. She worked briefly as a chemist at Frosst before leaving when she married Jacques Senecal and had her two daughters. Once the girls were at school, she studied to get her teacher certification and while working and having two school age children she still found time over the years to also get her Special Education certification and an M.Ed from McGill University. She taught at Transfiguration of Our Lord elementary school, St.Paul’s, and finally Pierrefonds Comprehensive High School where she taught a special needs class. After her retirement she continued tutoring well into her 70’s. Joan struggled her whole life with her mental health, including quite severe anxiety. May she now finally be at peace. There will be no service. Joan will be cremated and her ashes interred with those of her mother, father, and great grandparents in the Clark Memorial Cemetery in Ste. Agathe des Monts. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., Brantford, 519-752-4331. Donations to your local Alzheimer’s Society or to the Joan and Russell Pollard Family Entrance Scholarship (allocation # 05243) at McGill University would be welcomed. Condolences, donations and tributes are available at www.beckettglaves.com A tree will be planted in memory of Joan in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
