Obituary of Zena Payne
Please share a memory of Zena to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Zena Phelma Payne, “Z” - Sadly, surrounded by her loved ones, Z passed away on March 22, 2021. Zena is predeceased by her parents, Betty and Fred Brillenger, and her husband, Frank “Nick” Payne. Zena will be sadly missed by her daughter, Allison, her son, Bud, her dear friends Bonnie and Melissa Blunt, Kim Payne and Sandi Arsenault, and her “Granddaughters” Kaitlyn and Mackenzie. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews across Ontario and the United States. Zena was a long time employee of Spaldings where she worked with her best friend from kindergarten, Lois Mulligan. Here is where she met her dear husband Frank. Zena then went on to work at the John Noble Home as a dietary Aid. Zena had a love for Bingo, Triple 7s, her dogs and cats, and knitting. She had knit hundreds of scarves for kids and blankets for animals in the Brantford Community. Zena was a long time resident of Riverview Terrace Retirement home, where she was known as “the eyes and ears of the place”. Zena loved living at Riverview where she will be remembered for her quick wit and honest opinion. A special thanks to the staff at Riverview Terrace, whom Zena loved. Thank you for being so kind and respectful to our Zena over the years, and to Bonnie and Melissa who were always there for the good times and the hard times. She loved you all. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Avenue with sincere thanks. A Celebration of Life for Z will take place at a later date. In memory of Zena, donations to the SPCA, or a charity of your choice, would be appreciated. Zena’s was a life well lived full of laughter and joy.
“Tell me why the stars do shine,
Tell me why the ivy twines,
Tell me why the sky’s so blue,
And I will tell you just why I love you.”
A tree will be planted in memory of Zena in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
