Obituary of Joan Haw

Please share a memory of Joan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joan Irene Haw (nee: Bowden) 1929-2019 It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Joan’s passing on December 9th, 2019. She was held by family when she peacefully let go leaving this world to be embraced by the love of her life Donnie. Together again they now hold their daughter Janet whom they lost far too soon. Also waiting to welcome her home were her parents, Jessie, Marshall and stepdad Sam Whalen and her brothers Jackie, Norm, Bob, Donald and sister Sally (Belontz). Joan was a funny, loving, feisty, candid and opinionated force of nature in the lives of all she touched. She faced great loss and adversity in her life with strength and determination. Joan’s proudest accomplishment was her family and is survived by her 3 loving daughters, Donna, Marsha and Rhonda (Kyle) who have so many fond memories of time spent together in their family home and summers full of camp fires, lawn darts, horseshoes and Donnie playing his guitar at Willow Lake. She was a member of Knox Presbyterian and Wesley United Churches, Probus and an active member of the CNIB, finding fellowship and friendship while helping break down stereotypes affecting seniors with visual impairments. She also volunteered for various organizations over the years that were close to her heart. Joan will be lovingly remembered by her sister Gerry (Len Patterson), brother Danny (Heather). She was a beloved Grandma to Jaye (Robb), Justin, Josh (Naomi), Janet (Harrison) and Martina and a very special Gigi to great grandchildren Mazie, Truman, Poppie, Hayley, Emary, Ari and Vaida. She will also be greatly missed by all her many nieces and nephews in both the Haw and Bowden clans and her very special friends Barb and Terry Chandler as well as so many others. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Piercy, Dr. Cathy Hanley, the nurses and support staff at Telfer Place. Your love, dedication, friendship and care for Joan will forever be deeply appreciated. ***UpDate*** ********************************* Due to the outbreak of Covid 19, Joan's Celebration of Life will be postponed until a later date. ************************************************* At Joan’s request, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life for Joan will be held at the Dunsdon Legion, 9 Tollgate Road, Brantford. The interment will take place in the new year when she will be laid to rest with her best friend Donnie in St. George in a private family ceremony. We will always remember with gratitude the loving home Mom and Dad provided, where all our friends were welcomed with open arms. They were always there for us with unconditional love. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the CNIB. "Until we meet again"
