SIBBICK, Austin It is with sorrow that we announce Austin Purcel Sibbick, 96, died peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, October 19th, 2019. Austin was a dedicated husband of over 76 years to Vera Sibbick (Oros), and cherished father of Sylvia McCurdy (Dave Jenkins), and Delaine Sibbick (predeceased). Austin also leaves his grandchildren John Kopacsi (Laura), Elizabeth Venneri (Lou), and Marni Kopacsi (Dave) to mourn his loss. Great-grandchildren Chelsea, Lindsay, Erik, Lucas, Austin (his namesake), Ian and Aidan share in our collective family grief. Austin spent his whole life in the service of others. In the beginning, it was caring for his beloved wife who he loved wholly and dearly until his last breath. When he was forced to leave to attend military training for the Second World War, he prepared himself to defend our country. Once D-Day occurred, and the preparations for the military ended, Austin returned home to begin raising his daughter Sylvia, and then some years later would welcome his second daughter, Delaine into his life. In addition to his commitment to Balfour United Church where he held many different duties and responsibilities, Austin worked 40 years at Stelco in Brantford until his retirement. It goes without saying that anyone who spent time with Austin would know that he was a man of few words, but with those words came clarity, sincerity and truth. Austin had a fondness for cards, listening to music, spending time in his woodworking shop, and above all, sharing time with his loved ones - this is what he cherished most; his family. Countless thanks to the community at Orchard Terrace Retirement and Long Term Care facility in Stoney Creek for the love, kindness and support that was given to Austin. To the nurses, caregivers, and personal support workers who helped Austin, a sincere thank you for your companionship during his final journey. In honor of Austin, donations can be made to Muscular Dystrophy, Cancer Society or The Salvation Army. Friends will be received at the BECKETT-GLAVES FAMILY FUNERAL CENTRE, 88 Brant Ave. Brantford, 519-752-4331 on Friday, October 25th, 2019 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. A Funeral service will be held in the chapel on Saturday, October 26th at 10am; interment at Mount Hope Cemetery Brantford. A tree will be planted in memory of Austin in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
