SORENSEN, Margarita Teresa

December 3, 1924 - August 13, 2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Matriarch in her 95th year. Margarita passed away peacefully on August 13th, 2019 at Brantford General Hospital. Beloved wife of John B. Sorensen for 70 years. Loving Mother of Ronald (Annie) Sorensen of Windsor, Claudia Ainsworth (Neil Fraser) of Port Dover, Carl (Marilyn) Sorensen of Windsor, Lisa (David) Aldred of Boston and Angela (Serge) Soucy of Nanaimo, B.C. Proud Grandmother to 19 grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren. Margarita will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and friends. Margarita was a savvy property owner in Montreal by the time she was 17. She met her husband, John, while working at R and M Bearings and settled down soon after marriage to raise a family. They moved to Brantford in 1970. Margarita loved gardening, dancing, swimming, skiing, horseback riding and biking. She was an avid story-teller and loved fashion, handcrafting many of her haute couture outfits. Margarita had a heart of gold and was an extremely generous and caring person. She took great pride in her family and loved birds and animals. She was an enthusiastic doll collector and an active volunteer in several organizations. Margarita was a long-time member of St. Andrew’s (Zion) United Church, where she sang in the choir for almost 30 years. The sparkle in our Mum’s beautiful blue eyes will never be forgotten. At the family’s request, cremation has taken place and arrangements have been entrusted to the BECKETT – GLAVES FAMILY FUNERAL CENTRE, 88 Brant Avenue, 519-752-4331. Family and friends are invited to celebrate Margarita’s life at a reception on Saturday, August 24th, 2019 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church, 95 Darling Street, Brantford. Thanks to the doctors and nurses on the 8th floor of Brantford General Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Brant, the Brant County SPCA or the Home of Hope Orphanage in Malawi. Online condolences, tributes and service details will be available at www.beckettglaves.com.

A tree will be planted in memory of Margarita in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
