Obituary of Lucy Ayres

Please share a memory of Lucy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
AYRES, Lucy Margaret (nee Forse) January 23, 1916 - September 27, 2017 It is with hearts of gratitude that we announce the passing of Lucy Ayres at 101 years of age. Lucy died at peace, with family by her side, ready for her next chapter. She smiled for all around her until the very end. She is predeceased by her husband David, her son Brian, her daughter-in-law Janet and her sisters Myrth, Beryl and Edna. Her son Richard, granddaughters Shelley (Craig) and Kristen (Quinton) and great grandchildren, Mabel, Mia, Griffin and Kali will carry on her grace and kindness as will so many friends and extended family of whom she touched. Lucy was born in Thorold Ontario, she grew up with three sisters and was schooled through college. She met her husband David at a dance for WWII soldiers. They married in 1942 and had two sons. In her many years, Lucy witnessed 20 Canadian Prime Ministers, two World Wars and the Depression. She played many sports and was a provincial basketball champion. She was a member of St. James Anglican Church contributing to many groups and took great care of her family, friends and neighbours. Lucy’s home on Kennedy Street in Brantford was always welcoming. She had a beautiful flower garden, vegetables always grew in the backyard and there was a full cookie tin on her counter and a warm pie on the oven when you would visit. She led a full and vibrant life, we should all be so lucky. We thank Amica Whitby for the wonderful environment Lucy enjoyed in her final years and Lakeridge Health in Bowmanville and Whitby for their compassion in her final months and days. Friends will be received at the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., Brantford, on Monday, October 2nd, 2017 from 12 - 1 p.m. A Funeral Service will follow, in the chapel, on Monday at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. A tree will be planted in memory of Lucy in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
