YOUNG, Constance Margaret Davey (Connie).
Born in Guelph December 22, 1918, died in Toronto July 26, 2016 in her 98th year. Loved and revered by her family. Mother to Vivian and Ward, both of whom predeceased her, and to Owen and Heather. Grandmother to Jim, Rob, Emily, Kathryn, Morgen, Robyn, Sarah and Keaton. Great-grandmother to Emily, Olivia, Andrew, Ruby, Finneas, Alice, Cooper, and Estelle. Special family to Eva, Pat, Bruce and Victoria.
Having grown up in Guelph, Connie spent her adult life variously in Toronto, Caledonia, Kingston and Brantford. She graduated with honours and distinction in the 1940s from the Ontario Agricultural College in Guelph and the University of Toronto, earning her BSA in Chemistry and MSA in Physiological Hygiene/Animal Nutrition. In the 1970s, in the early days of computing, she started a second career as a Senior Computer Systems Analyst, working with the Ministry of Health in both Toronto and Kingston up until and after retirement. Connie had an affectionate and unwavering respect for nature and our world, instilling in her family her sense of wonder, justice and compassion for life and all things living. She was gracious and grand; a generous supporter of her family’s aspirations and dreams; a relentless Scrabble opponent. It is with profound sadness that the family says goodbye to our wise owl.
Thank you to the staff at Kensington Gardens 2N for their kindness and care. Heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful Senbetu Tesfay (Sam), for her sensitive and gentle care, and her friendship. In lieu of flowers, donations in Connie’s memory to The Nature Conservancy of Canada would be appreciated. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held at the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave, on Thursday August 4 at 2:00 PM.
A tree will be planted in memory of Connie in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
