PREECE, Shirley Patricia - Born March 10, 1927. Shirley passed into the presence of her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, October 6th, 2009, in Abbotsford, B.C. She is predeceased by her parents, Sydney and Wilhelmine Preece, brother and sister-in-law, Allister (Al) and Norma Preece. She is survived by her niece, Delaine Hopkins and husband Gary, Paris, Ontario, her nephew Robert Preece and his wife Sandra, Ottawa (Kinburn), Ontario and four great-nieces and their families. Also survived by several cousins. Shirley was born in Brantford, Ontario and came to trust Jesus as her Lord and Saviour at age 16. She later attended and graduated from Prairie Bible Institute, Three Hills, AB. and the Brantford General Hospital School of Nursing in preparation for missionary service. Shirley left in March, l953 for South Africa where she served for 35 years under TEAM (The Evangelical Alliance Mission). She served first as a registered nurse and midwife (after one year Midwifery Training at Grey's Hospital, Pietermaritsburg, South Africa.), and then as Director of Nursing at Mosvold Mission Hospital, Ingwavuma, KwaZulu-Natal, as well as being involved in a church planting outreach from the hospital. From 1988 she served in Bible teaching and children's ministries in the churches and schools in the Nongoma district in South Africa until retirement in l997. On return to Canada she settled in Abbotsford, B.C. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Avenue. A Memorial Service was held in Abbotsford, B.C. A graveside service will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Brantford on Thursday at 12 noon with Pastor Ken Donald officiating. A tree will be planted in memory of Shirley in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
