Obituary of Joyce Wehrstein

WEHRSTEIN, Joyce Ames (nee Lawrason) - At Brantford General Hospital, on Thursday, December 25, 2008, Joyce Ames Wehrstein. Predeceased by her beloved husband Lloyd H (1988); her parents, William (1961) and Elsie (1970) Lawrason and her sister Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Keirle (1982) and her husband William (Bill) Keirle (1997). Survived by her devoted son John and his wife Joan, Brantford. Special Aunt to Eddie (2006) and Gwen Wehrstein, Brantford and Robert and Patricia (2006) Reeve, Guelph. Special "Mom" to Laurie Joyce Davey and Heather Joyce Davey of Montreal. Joyce's ancestors were among the original settlers of St. George and she was the 5th generation of her family to live in the Lawrason Homestead. After attending McMaster University and Normal School, Joyce taught primary school in Galt from 1942 until 1959, returning to the Homestead with her family in 1960. For many years, Joyce, was active with the St. George United Church, Brant County Historical Society, St. George Old School Museum and St. George Old School Drama. She was an avid reader and historian and was recognized by the County of Brant and Province of Ontario, for her contributions to the St. George and area community. Special thanks to Dr. Ann Marie Connelly and Brantford General Hospital Palliative Care staff for their wonderful and supportive care. Cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service celebrating Joyce's life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at St. George United Church (9 Beverly St., St. George) at 2 p.m. with visitation prior to the service from 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. A private family interment will take place in spring 2009. In lieu of flowers donations to the St. George United Church Memorial Fund, the Brantford General Hospital Palliative Care Unit or South Dumfries Historical Society, would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Joyce in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
