SCHLATMAN, Hugh B. Sr. - Suddenly at Versa Care Longterm Care on Saturday, October 11th, 2008, Hugh passed away in his 88th year. Devoted husband of Adele Schlatman (nee Bohnert) for over 63 years. Beloved father of Allan (the late Linda), Terry (the late Brian) Van Wyck, Mary Ann (the late Wayne) Squance, Janice (Bill) Schenk, Hugh C. Jr. (Linda), Joan (Gary) Firth, Roger (Sandra) and Gwen (Dan) Borthwick. Dear grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of 12. Loving brother of Veronica Green, Lorretta Gerlock, and Mary Thomson. Hugh is predeceased by three brothers. He will also be dearly missed by many other family and friends. A Veteran of World War II with the R.C.A.F., Hugh ended the war as a Warrant Officer 1 of unit 608. Following the war Hugh worked for Sperry Univac for over 35 years. Friends will be received at the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Avenue, on Wednesday, October 15th, from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Pius X Roman Catholic Church on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. Donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Brant S.P.C.A. would be greatly appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Hugh in the Beckett - Glaves Memorial Forest. BRILLIANT AIRMAN, W.O.H. SCHLATMAN HOME FROM OVERSEAS Warrant Officer Hugh B. Schlatman is a guest this week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Bohnert, enjoying a 30-day furlough following several years service with the R.C.A.F. overseas. Following his training in Canada, he went to England as sergeant, where he received further training, then flew from England to Gibraltar, then on to the squadron he joined in North Africa. He later saw service in Sicily, Italy and the Middle East, from where he returned to England before reaching Canada. Warrant Officer 1 Schlatman has had a brilliant flying career, having won promotion from Sergeant to Flight Sergeant, Warrant Officer 2, and in January of this year as Warrant Officer 1. He expects to report at Trenton at the conclusion of his leave, which he is spending with his parents in Toronto. Warrant Officer Schlatman and his family resided in Hanover until a few years ago. A brother, Steven Schlatman, is overseas with the Canadian Army.
