HUGHES, Mary Patricia (nee Melligan) - Passed away quietly at her home, after a brief illness on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 in her 95th year. Beloved wife of John Henry Hughes (1919-1983). Cherished mother of Terry (Lorna), and Geoff, both of Ottawa, Pam (Don) Schott, Frank, Tim, and Pat, all of Brantford. She is predeceased by her much loved parents Frank Melligan (1889-1951) and Elizabeth Melligan (nee Webster - 1895-1970), her brother Ted Melligan (1921-1990) and her sister-in-law Helen Melligan (nee Grinton - 1923-2002). She will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren Alison, Carly, David, and Mathieu, and her great-grandchildren Hannah, Graeme, Norah, and Oskar. Mary loved her garden and it was a matter of passionate engagement throughout her life. She was also a master quilter and seamstress, and leaves many mementoes of her patient craftsmanship. Her strength and her love and loyalty were unshakeable and cannot be replaced. Her other lifelong concern was for her many beloved dogs. They played an important role in her life and provided joy and comfort in her final years. Following Mary's wishes, a private graveside service was arranged with the Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, (519)752-4331. Interment St. Joseph's Cemetery. Donations to the Brant County SPCA would be appreciated. "Her lord said unto her, Well done, thou good and faithful servant; thou has been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord." A tree will be planted in memory of Mary in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
