Condolences
We want to start by saying thank you to everyone who has come to celebrate the life of our grandma. For those of you that don't know us, we are Vera's only grandchildren. I am the oldest Deb, then Cheryl and the youngest Brenda.
Grandma was very special in our eyes and we have some fond memoires we would like to share today. We would like to tell you why we think she was the Best Grandma Ever.
Starting with family dinners and times at her house:
-She would offer you more food even if you were not finished what was on your plate.
- Could always have dessert even if you did not finish what was on your plate. There was never just one dessert either. Pies - lemon, apple, cherry. Jell-O's - with fruit and whipped cream and her famous cakes with butter cream frosting. She expected you to have more then one dessert on the plate, so you never left hungry.
- Playing with the two poodles over the years. And they were both named Teddy.
- Watching grandma and grandpa go around the house winding all of the clocks
- Sleepovers at grandma's were memorable because of the comfort of listening to all of the clocks lulling you to sleep.
Cottage Days:
We could always get her to braid our hair. Mom did not like it, but we could always talk her into it.
Learning how to play jacks. When there was a competition Grandma was sure to win.
Getting up in the mornings to help sweep away all the Mayflies on the front porch.
Taking the stale bread down to feed the ducks.
Walks with the dog over the bridge and down the gravel road.
Walking downtown to go shopping at Waddles
Playing euchre tournaments in the evenings instead of watching T.V
Special Moments:
Christmas always meant lots and lots of presents. But waiting for grandma and grandpa to come over was difficult because grandma took long to get ready. She made sure she was dressed smart. Today grandma we hope you approve of the attire we wearing. We tried to look smart just for you.
Sitting on Mike's motorcycle one afternoon at the age of 90 and saying how she was ready and willing to go for a ride. She was so excited that day.
Having long talks about how life has changed over the years. Telling stories of her life as a little girl, getting married, being a mother, becoming a grandmother, a great grandmother and a great, great grandmother.
Days in the Hospital:
-She was appreciative of the nurses and PSW's and told us how good they were to her. She even said they did not want her to leave when it was time for her to go home. She made some special friends too. It wasn't long and they were having daily euchre games.
One of Grandma's beliefs that we would like to leave you with:
Grandma believed that age was only a number- she always said "if you think old you feel old" "if you think like a young person, you feel young"…grandma always said "you are only as old as you act and you can do anything that you put your mind to…she was a very strong willed determined woman…
Thinking of you Donna, your Mom was a wonderful woman. I will miss my conversations with her. Heaven has gained another amazing woman. What a reunion she has had with Mel, Mom & Daddy, I can just hear the laughter. Maybe Mel & Daddy will let her join their bike rides? Remember if you need anything, we are just a phone call away.
