Obituary of Shirley Harrison

HARRISON, Shirley Josephine (nee Heslip) - Passed away peacefully at the Queensway Carleton Hospital in Ottawa on March 28, 2014 in her 90th year. Shirley is predeceased by her husband, Gordon Stuart Harrison of Brantford, Ontario, her mother Myrtle Heslip (nee Downer) and father, Will Heslip, and her siblings, Reba, Fred, Barney, Barbara, Hugh and Eleanor. Shirley is survived by her son Gordon (Sharon), granddaughters Emily (Derek) and Sarah, and her devoted brother Richard. Shirley will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews as well as Annabelle Welk and the Derouin family, to whom she was affectionately known as "Grandma Harrison". Shirley was a long time member of Central Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed many friendships and years of curling and golf at the Brantford Golf and Country Club and farther afield in Peterborough. The family extends their sincere appreciation to her long-time friend and neighbor, Leona, friend and caregiver Gail, the staff at Chartwell Kanata and the capable and compassionate staff of the Queensway Carleton Hospital who eased her final struggle with COPD. Friends will be received at Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Avenue, Brantford on Wednesday, April 2 from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the chapel on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Brantford General Hospital Foundation or the Queensway Carleton Hospital Foundation would be appreciated. A tree will be planted in memory of Shirley in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
