Please share a memory of Norah to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
CUTHBERT, Norah (nee Stewart)
April 11,1939 - June 7,2025
Our beloved Mum passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on June 7, 2025. Norah was predeceased in 2024 by her loving husband and best friend, Norman. Celebrating more than 60 years of marriage she is now reunited with him. Mum was not only a caring and supportive mother to her two daughters, Fiona (Bob) and Lorna (Heather), she was also our dear friend. We will miss her immensely. Norah adored her only grandchild, Catherine. At the time of her death, Mum’s cherished nieces, Susan and Kirsteen were visiting from the UK and their presence gave her much comfort. She will be missed by their families as well as the Giffen and Atthill families.
Mum grew up in Gourock, Scotland and spent her formative years in the company of her younger brother Gordon (Jean) whom she adored. An avid tennis player, she met her best friend Eleanor on the grass courts in Paisley. She graduated from Glasgow University in Nursing in 1960. Mum loved being a nurse. Norman was her date for a nursing ball and the rest was history. She helped Dad establish his medical practice in Bridlington, England and during their time in “Brid” she made life long friends with whom she kept in touch long after her move to Canada.
Settling in Brantford, Ontario in 1972, Mum supported her children in all their endeavors, from making ice skating costumes, to attending sporting events and school plays. She encouraged her girls to follow their educational dreams and to be ambitious (wise and sage advice). Mum was actively involved with the Central Presbyterian Church, the Brantford Symphony Orchestra and the Ladies Committee of the Brantford Golf and Country Club. She was a keen golfer and she and Dad enjoyed many golf trips together. She was thrilled to be able to golf in Palm Springs this past March with Lorna and Heather. Mum had many friends, and her lasting legacy will be that of being a true, kind and loyal friend. If Mum was your friend, you were a lucky person.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Friends and family will be received for a service celebrating Norah’s life on June 20th at Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., Brantford. Visitation will begin at 11:30 with the funeral service commencing at 1:00. A reception will follow. Condolences and memories can be shared with the family at www.beckettglaves.com. The family requests no flowers but should you so wish, a charitable donation to the Brantford Symphony Orchestra (brantfordsymphony.ca) or Victorian Order of Nurses (von.ca) would be appreciated.
A tree will be planted in memory of Norah in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest
