Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dover, David- It is with profound sadness that the family of David Paul Dover (born April 5, 1955) announces his passing, surrounded by family, on March 2nd, 2025. Beloved husband of Debbie (Rutherford), loving father of Matthew (Gabby) and Heather and special grandpa to Alice. Dear brother of Dan (Carol) Dover and caring brother-in-law of Darrell (JoAnne), Jeff, Sandra and Ian Rutherford. David was a cherished uncle to many. He achieved his dream and retired to the cottage in Pike Bay after a career with the Grand Erie District School Board. David’s love for being on or near the water started as a toddler spending time at the cottage his Dad built in Wasaga Beach in the 1950’s. In 1975 the family discovered a cottage called “Cedar Brae” in Pike Bay and there was no turning back. There was even room for the fleet of boats that David enjoyed, including the little red rowboat built by his dad. David inherited a strong work ethic from his parents and became handy at anything he put his mind to. The cottage was renovated into a warm and cozy home through his loving sweat equity. There was never a shortage of things to do to keep him occupied at the cottage and he loved (almost) every minute. He took great pleasure in pulling anyone behind the ski boat. He was passionate about music and enjoyed singing along to just about anything but had a fondness for Gordon Lightfoot, Stan and Garnet Rogers, and The Rankin Family. He was a history buff that enjoyed trivia, reading, and watching old movies. We lost count on the number of times he watched Casablanca, his favourite. David loved watching the birds and squirrels at the many feeders he maintained, and cherished spending time with his family and many friends - especially if it was to try out a new beer, or red wine. His favourite pastime of all though was spent with Alice on the water. Heartfelt gratitude to the remarkable paramedics and health care staff that cared for David at both the Owen Sound Hospital and University Hospital in London. If wished, donations in David’s memory can be made to support our local Lion’s Head Hospital. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted with Beckett-Glaves Family Funeral Centre, 88 Brant Ave., Brantford, 519-752-4331. A tree will be planted in memory of David in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
