Hastings, Melvin Donald Passed away peacefully at the Greater Niagara Falls General Hospital on Saturday, December 9, 2017 in his 86th year. Beloved husband of the late Doris (1996). Cherished father of David (Chris) , Scott (Brenda), Sharon (Peter) Vanderheyden. He will be missed by his six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Brother of Margaret (Richard) Knights from Moose Jaw and Ralph (Valerie) Hastings from Brantford. Predeceased by brother Ken. Predeceased by parents David ‘Glen’ and Dora Hastings. He will be deeply missed by his friend Myrna Town and several nieces, nephews and friends. Melv retired from Gates Canada after 30 years of service. He served as a volunteer firefighter in Cainsville. During his time at Smokey Hollow he was an active participant in many activities. Cremation has taken place. Friends will be received at BECKETT-GLAVES FAMILY FUNERAL CENTRE, 88 Brant Ave. on Monday, December 18, 2017 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will follow in the chapel at 12:00. Interment at Mount Hope Cemetery. Donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated. Online condolences, donations, service details and live funeral webcast will be available at www.beckettglaves.com. A tree will be planted in memory of Melvin in the Beckett-Glaves Memorial Forest.
